Fertilizer, natural or artificial substance containing the chemical elements that improve growth and productiveness of plants. Fertilizers enhance the natural fertility of the soil or replace chemical elements taken from the soil by previous crops.
While India uses many types of fertilizers, urea accounts for most of the consumption of N and DAP for most of that of P2O5. Urea accounts for 82 percent of the total consumption of straight N fertilizers.
Di-ammonium Phosphate popularly known as DAP is a preferred
fertilizer in India because it contains both Nitrogen and
Phosphorus which are primary macro-nutrients and part of 18
essential plant nutrients. DAP (NH4)2HPO4: Fertilizer grade DAP
Contains 18% Nitrogen and 46% Phosphorus (P2O5)..
DAP is generally applied as a basal dose before sowing. The
Earliest seed germination is not earlier than 6 days and roots are
initiated. Nitrogen does not stay in soil beyond 36-48 hrs.
